Employee Mass Update Tool Overview

GOAL: To advise how to utilize the Employee Mass Update tool as SQL querying to create changes in mass.

WARNING: This is a powerful tool to mass update any fields within the database, and easily cause trouble should the statement be written incorrectly.

It is worth noting that this is an audited module.

We recommend use of this tool in the morning in case of a typo or mistake, you can easily restore the previous night’s backup.

SYSTEM > EMPLOYEE MASS UPDATE

Here you can enter the Table and Column name for desired changes, alongside a Reason text box where you can input the cause for these changes to be recorded for auditing purposes.

**EC_EMPLOYEE_BENEFITS and EMP_GROUP_CODE**

This will allow us to change the Employee Group Code for any employees that fit the Condition defined.

In the above case;

  1. ___SUPP Employee Group
  2. EID (as a test)

This essentially tells the system to replace EMP_GROUP_CODE = ___SUPP for EID __29, under the EC_EMPLOYEE_BENEFITS table, and to set it to ADM___ now.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If Update Database = No then this is essentially Trial mode, so you can see the results before making changes to the DB.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: The SQL syntax of using WHERE and ‘’ for the value in the first line of Condition is implied and not required.

HELPFUL TIP: Don’t close the Employee Mass Update module after running in test, as returning would require you to re-input the Conditions and it could make a mistake.

Instead, leave the module open, return using the Window tab, and simply change Update Database = Yes to ensure the same changes are being made.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The report does not state if the report is TRIAL or PRODUCTION.

Here you would need to check the first vs second report to know which is Trial vs Production.

**Verify the changes under Employee level Benefits**

Click through the Benefit records to ensure all fields have populated accordingly and to simply give it a ‘once over’.

Note: Although the above example is using EC_EMPLOYEE_BENEFITS, the module can make updates to anything, so verifying the changes in the front end of the UI can be using various different modules, not just the Benefits screen.
