Provincial report card setup – Ontario provincial report cards

The K-12 provincial report cards and OnSIS require a specific setup for marks & comments, with Ministry codes defined in the tables. The provincial report card validation will set up:

  • Terms, topics, letter grade groups, program codes
  • Achievement parameters (which types of marks and comments are allowed in those terms and topics)
  • Achievement profiles (which classes get which terms and topics)
  • Comment parameters as chosen (elementary only)

Please select the desired elementary comment parameter settings and choose VALIDATE.

After the validation is finished, the use 'Setup > Marks & Comments > Achievement profiles' to assign Achievement profiles to the schools. Then, each school can use 'Setup > Marks & comments > Assign profiles to classes' to complete the setup.

Use 'Setup - Marks & comments > Lock/unlock terms' to make sure the appropriate reporting term(s) are unlocked and locked. This can be done at either the board or school level.

Tables not yet defined – starting fresh

If tables have not yet been defined for the Ontario Provincial Report Card, you will see the following interface:

Once you make some selections and click VALIDATE, all tables will be defined with the provincial report card settings. Only the elementary comment-entry settings can be changed.

Please make your selections based on the following information:

Progress report subject comment parameters

  • Collaboration of comments by teachers: all subjects see the whole large comment space for their use, but it is a first-come first-served space. If one teacher uses most of the space, the other subject teachers may see the ‘comment too large’ warning.
  • Distinct entry of comments: each subject will get a small amount of space to contribute to the large comment box on page 2 of the progress report. This allows each teacher to have their say, but it may cause some white space on the printed report card if not all subjects use their full comment space.
  • Only homeroom teacher enters comments: only the Language topic will allow for a progress comment. This allows only one teacher (two if an additional teacher is used) access this comment.

  • Collaboration: The history topic and geography topic will show the whole comment space for their use, but it is a first-come first-served space
